Conestogo Park bookings has been taken down

This was a volunteer project. Conestogo Park gets used by all sorts of people for all sorts of things, and the rink in particular sees pickleball, ball hockey, tennis, sledge hockey and plenty of people who just want to shoot pucks for half an hour. Most of the time that works itself out. The problem was groups. When two organised groups arrange to show up at the same time, one of them ends up standing around.

So I built a calendar. The idea was that if people could see when a group planned to be there, they would plan around each other. That is all it was ever meant to do.

It only works if everyone understands what a booking on it actually meant. It was never a reservation. Conestogo Park is public and first come, first served, and nothing on this site ever changed that. Booking a time did not entitle anyone to show up and ask other people to leave. That was stated plainly on the site and on the signs, alongside the fact that this was not affiliated with the Township of Woolwich.

Some people read it as a reservation anyway, and that has caused disagreements at the park. I put my own time and money into this to try to be part of the solution, and I am now fielding complaints about it. That is not something I am willing to keep doing, so the site is coming down.

Thanks to everyone who used it properly. It worked well while it lasted.
